How Does Mr. Duy's Program Work?
It's Easy

If Mr. Duy is working directly with your school, he will start off with an assembly about bullying and introduce Cool Carl and the other characters.  Over the course of the school year, he will visit each classroom with one or more of the characters three or four times, depending on his schedule. He also reads a short book on bullying.  Each teacher will determine with their students what it takes to have a peaceful day.  Over the course of the school year, each time a classroom has five peaceful days (need not be consecutive), an "achievement" ribbon (see above) is earned along with each student receiving a Cool Carl trading card.  Examples can be seen in the "Photo Album" section.  One of the trading cards will be a "winner" card.  That student wins a Cool Carl T-shirt with a picture of one of the characters of their choice. Classes who have earned a ribbon are recognized over the intercom during announcements.  All adults involved also receive a freeT-shirt.  It is suggested they declare one day of the week "Peaceful School" day and wear their T-shirt on that day.  Mr. Duy is also providing a T.V. show on our local channel ACTV and FVTV from Waubonsee Junior College (see the "About Us" tab).  Students who wish to have their picture on the show must promise not to be a bully and provide a picture along with a signed permission slip.  Schools have a full set of eight episodes in their library.  Students are able to sign them out to view at home.

Schools not working directly with Mr. Duy but wish to be involved, can contact Mr. Duy regarding arrangements.

This program is funded primarily by the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley and the Dunham Fund, a foundation in the Fox Valley, Kane County, IL ,along with additional funding from the Juvenile Protective Association and other local civic organizations.
