Maria is a good friend of Big Sister Cindy.  She helps Cindy in her Spanish class because she speaks Spanish fluently.  They like to hang out together allot and say that they will always be BFF.  It's very nice to have close friends who stick up for you when others may be unkind.  Everybody likes Maria, but she's a bit shy and has trouble liking herself.  Cindy keeps telling her that she should be proud of herself and be happy.  When Maria walks down the hall she usually looks at the floor rather than standing tall and looking at people.  She is especially hurt by Betty Ann who never says hi to her, but looks the other way when they cross paths.  Bottom line, she is pretty but she doesn't think so.  She's happy to have Cindy as her friend.
